Overview
The Green Financing and Landscape Management Officer is pivotal in the Research Group on Green Value Chain, Integrated Business Model & Innovative Financing. This role encompasses various responsibilities related to green financing, investment strategies, innovative payment mechanisms for ecosystem services (PES), performance/result-based payments, carbon trading, and sustainable landscape management. The Green Financing and Landscape Management officer will be crucial in advancing sustainable landscape management practices, promoting green financing solutions, and developing innovative financial mechanisms for green commodities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing overall research under such projects, including developing questionnaires, leading field surveys and focus group discussions, analyzing data, and preparing comprehensive reports.
Duties and responsibilities
Socio-economist:- Research Design: Using the existing ICRAF’s research methodologies and tools, design research questions in collaboration with other team members, develop comprehensive questionnaires tailored to gather relevant information as outlined under the research objectives. The questionnaire needs to be compatible for use on a mobile platform to facilitate convenient data collection and analysis.
- Survey Implementation: Lead the implementation of household surveys and focus group discussions (FGD) to collect relevant data from the target population. Ensure that the surveys and FGDs are conducted systematically and ethically, maintaining high standards of data quality and integrity.
- Data Analysis and Interpretation: Conduct thorough data analysis using appropriate statistical methods and software tools. Interpret the findings to identify trends, patterns, and insights related to the socio-economic conditions of the target population.
- Report Writing: Compile the analyzed data and findings into comprehensive reports. The reports should be well-structured, concise, and accessible, providing valuable insights and recommendations based on the research objectives.
Sustainable Landscape Planning:- Collaborate with stakeholders to promote and integrate sustainability principles into landscape planning and management strategies.
- Contribute to the Development of Input-Output of LUMEN Analysis:
- Work closely with the LUMEN Analysis team to develop input-output models that capture green value chains' economic and environmental impacts.
Innovative Financing and Investment for Green Commodities:- Identify and evaluate innovative financing mechanisms and investment opportunities for green commodities and sustainable landscapes.
- Collaborate with financial institutions, investors, and other stakeholders to develop and implement green financing solutions.
- Contribute to communicating the research results to targeted and broader audiences through policy briefs, posters, guidelines, book chapters, international journal articles or other types of publications such as videos and leaflets.
- Contribute to presenting the research results at various international, national, and sub-national events, i.e., seminars, workshops, conferences, sharing learning sessions, etc.
Other Responsibilities:- Identify and mitigate potential risks within your work area.
- Take reasonable care of own occupational health and safety and that of others as obliged by CIFOR-ICRAF’s Occupational Health and Safety Policy and cooperate with CIFOR-ICRAF in complying with requirements under any statutory health and safety provisions of relevant Country laws.
- Participate in (insert team as appropriate) projects as may be required.

Education, knowledge and experience
• Master's degree or equivalent in Environmental Science, Finance, Economics, Agriculture, Forestry, Agribusiness and/or other social economy backgrounds, demonstrating a solid understanding of agriculture and rural development socio-economic concepts, theories, and methodologies.
• Have a minimum of 3 (three) years of relevant experience, preferably in an agricultural socio-economic research role dealing with smallholder farmers, green financing, and landscape planning.
• Experience working with non-profit organizations and/or research institutions is essential.
• Additional experience in coordinating socio-economic research activities and conducting training for enumerators would be advantageous.
